Module 10 – Universal Design

Module 3 explored the concept of modifications. As discussed previously, modifications serve to enhance existing systems. They can adjust or add sound, color, texture, and other stimuli to  devices or environments that do not meet the needs of people with  disabilities, thus making them accessible. As  society has become more diverse (e.g. students with disabilities being mainstreamed into general education classes), developers of both conventional and assistive technologies (for review see Module 3), have begun  developing their technologies to be used universally, among the greatest number of people possible (this includes people with disabilities). This design concept is called Universal Design, and not only will it be defined in this module, but significant attention will be paid to its seven principals.
