Yes, financial aid is available in the winter; however, there is a separate winter application that must be completed. You must be registered for your courses before you submit the application.
Winter is the middle semester in the fall/winter/spring/summer year. Therefore, some Federal Direct Loans may not be available if a student has already reached their annual maximum. In addition, a student’s cost of attendance will normally only include tuition and fees and books because the student’s living expenses are already included in the fall/spring academic year. The only aid types available in the winter are Federal Pell Grant and Federal Direct Loans. Aid is based on that year’s (fall/winter/spring/summer) FAFSA.
How many credits can I take in Winter Session?
3 semester hours is the maximum registration for Winter Session without special permission which you would request from your college.
Can I transfer credits earned during Winter Session to another institution?
Please check with the school that you are currently attending since the transfer of credits is at the discretion of the receiving institution.
When are final exams?
As determined by the instructor - typically on the last day of class.
When will my grades be available?
Winter Session 2009-10 grades will be posted January 22, 2010.

On-campus parking is very limited, however, Cambus, the University's mass transit system, offers on-campus bus service that is available to the general public at no fare. Schedules are available from the Cambus office or on any Cambus. Does the University of Iowa have a policy regarding inclement weather?
The University's Extreme Weather Policy is detailed in the Operations Manual. The general policy is as follows:
"Whenever possible, the University continues to function during inclement weather. Regularly scheduled classes meet to the extent that students and faculty are able to travel to campus and attend classes. Units of the University providing essential services must remain open and in operation. These include University Hospitals and Clinics, Dental Clinics, Public Safety, University Housing, and Facilities Management. Staff in these units will be expected to make every reasonable effort to report to work. Administrative functions on the campus continue to the extent that faculty, staff, and administrators can travel to and conduct business on campus. Individuals should use good judgment and avoid serious risks in traveling to campus or in attending classes."
