Course Completion Time

Guided Independent Study DE Courses
You have the option of utilizing two academic terms to complete GIS courses.  If you have all course requirements completed by your instructor’s deadlines for the end of the first term, you will receive your final grade for that course at the end of that term. If you do not complete the course in one academic term, you will automatically be assigned an “I” for “Incomplete.” You will not have to request an “Incomplete” from an instructor.  You will have through the second term to finish your course requirements, at which point your grade will be changed from the “I” to your final grade.  Students who do not complete the course by the second term deadlines will automatically receive an “F”.

Enrollment Term

Summer Close of Summer semester classes December 1

* Visit the UI academic calendar at http://www.registrar.uiowa.edu/calendars/academic.aspx for Close of Semester Classes dates.  Some instructors have first term completion dates other than the Close of Semester Classes date, please see your course syllabus for exact dates.

Web/ICN/Extension DE Courses
Web, ICN, and Extension courses are one-term semester-length courses unless otherwise noted by your instructor.  If the course does not have a start date listed in ISIS, it is a semester-length course which begins on the first day of the semester and ends with the close of semester classes.  Off cycle-courses will have a start and end date listed in ISIS.

Your course syllabus will identify dates and parameters for submitting assignments and taking exams. Typically, off-cycle and short courses have unique deadlines. Significant deadlines are posted online for each session: http://www.registrar.uiowa.edu/calendars/ academic.aspx .
